Salvation Army Emergency Services
The Salvation Army in PNG has responded well to major/national disasters in recent years.
These have included the tsunami that impacted Aitape in 1998, Cyclone Guba in the Oro Province, the tsunami that impacted the Solomon Islands in 2007, and the crash of the plane flying Australian trekkers to Kokoda a few years ago.
In 2011 we also responded to the Airlines PNG Crash at Madang and offered trauma counselling to the victims’ families and workmates.
In 2012 our Lae based Officers were heavily involved in assisting survivors of the Rabaul Queen Ferry Disaster off Finschhafen.
During the beginning of 2014 Captain Bernard Kila went to Solomon Islands to assist PNG officers Capts Gandi and Igoto Muru resettle and rebuild the lives of those affected by floods.
