New Territorial Leaders Installed

Installtion of New Territorial Leaders

It was a significant occasion for the territory as many Salvationist friends including divisional leaders from the Southern Zone came to witness and be a part of the installation ceremony of the new territorial leaders.
Colonels Garth & Patti Niemand, both officers of Southern Africa Territory, were officially installed as the new territorial leaders of The Papua New Guinea & Solomon Islands Territory by retired Commissioner Andrew Kala who officiated the ceremony.

The installation segment was a sacred moment for the new leaders who stepped out and responded equally to the covenant read by the Commissioner. He than read the scriptures from 1 Peter 5:2-4, then installed both Colonels Garth & Patti Niemand as Territorial Commander & Territorial President of Women’s Ministries.
“God bless you both and grant you His wisdom, grace and peace in this new role,” said Commissioner Kalai. A prayer of dedication was offered for the new territorial leaders, “asking for the Lord’s hand to be upon them in their respective roles as they serve in the PNG & SI territory.”

During the program various items were presented, from prophet singing by the Salvation Army Cultural Arts & Gospel Singers, to a vocal by the territorial headquarters staff and officers, and a timbrel march by the Senior Timbrelists who played so wonderfully that it was greeted with a loud applause.
Bro Borana Rabona (CSM) Hohola Church in his welcome speech spoke of PNG’s diverse culture and landscape and the work undertaken in the territory. Furthermore he assured, the new leaders of the support of fellow Salvationists in working alongside them to bring the territory forward.

Colonel Patti was able to share a brief personal testimony reflecting on how she came to know God through The Salvation Army. She said, “In 1986, as a young teenage girl, I was invited by a school friend to attend a Salvation Army Music Camp. I was not a Christian but since I was not doing anything I went along.”
During the camp, she was intrigued by the Army’s uniforms and fascinated by the brass band. Moreover the tambourines and the concept of pastors called officers and their ranks was all foreign to her. It was at that particular time that she met Garth, not knowing that from then onwards, God had a plan for her.

She said, “God’s been preparing us and were here today to serve alongside you in this beautiful country of Papua New Guinea.”
A challenging bible message was given by Colonel Garth from the scriptures of Ezra 3:10-13 which saw many respond and move forward to the mercy seat.
